EMILY Gakiza

Emily Gakiza is a lawyer and risk and governance professional with more than 24 years of experience across the financial services sector. Emily has advised on a broad range of legal and commercial matters, including financing, conveyancing, outsourcing, corporate real estate, and employment. She has led the implementation of regulatory compliance frameworks across the financial services and mobile money sectors, and has provided specialist advisory on anti-money laundering and sanctions.

An accredited IFC/ICSA governance trainer, Emily facilitates training with the ICSA Uganda Chapter and is a recognised advisor on governance and business succession planning. She has a proven record as a change champion, leading transformational initiatives that demand stakeholder alignment and cultural change. Emily holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Dar es Salaam, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Law Development Centre in Kampala, and an MBA from the University of Leicester. As a Board member at Luuka Plastics Ltd, she has advised on business succession planning, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk oversight.
